Well, as I feared and/or predicted, my dive into super-busyness did interrupt the blogging streak.
I’ll admit, I was kind of impressed with myself for getting Friday’s post up from the hotel room after a 4.5 hour drive from Boston to NYC. (Plus the last-minute housing crisis we had to negotiate, but that’s a story for another day.) But then, after a busy Saturday out-and-about, we decided to do something a little different and go out on the town!
Admittedly, it was to a game bar, so our #nerdcore rep remains intact. Still, after several hours of bar food, games and G&Ts, I just sort of forgot about blogging until we went lights out at around 11:30.*
And then last night I got sucked into Rent (intended to be) Live on TV. Which again: is a story for another day.
It was as easy as that: two strikes.
I’m trying to figure out what, if anything, I’m going to do to compensate for this bobble. Do I do two extra posts along the way so that I bring the yearly total back up? That would mean a couple of days with multiple posts, and I’m trying to wrap my brain around how fruitless or foolish a notion that would be. More than one post a day just feels kind of odd to me.
Alternately, I could just let these two missed days stay in the rearview mirror. However much I might have wanted to kid myself otherwise, it wasn’t exactly realistic to think I was going to be able to complete a full 365-day streak of new blog posts here on JALC. Maybe I should put some thought into what I’d consider to be an “acceptable” number of misses over these 12 months, and use that to shape my blogging goal.
(300 posts in the year? That sounds like a HUGE number, compared to my past stretches of blogging hereabouts. But that would also mean an average of 1 missed post each week, which seems maybe not-very-ambitious. Hmmm…..)
Well, it’s not a problem I’m going to solve tonight. If I’m lucky, I’ll re-establish the streak during the rest of this week’s travels. No way I’m doing any hypothetical “make-up” work till I’m home again and things are a bit quieter.

* I’m not sure what it says about me that I did remember this missed “obligation” just about as soon as my head hit the pillow. And I was tempted for a minute or two to get up and address that gap. But: late, sleepy, G&Ts. You do the math.
